Thanks for supporting our not-for-profit mission to affordably bring a variety of yoga traditions to diverse communities in an eco-sensitive, community environment.
Our studios are run by volunteers and we rely on you to help spread the word about our yoga centers, that are by the community for the community.
Why are we unconventional? We aren't a regular yoga studio. Our studio-based and community outreach programs help people learn and practice yoga postures and other aspects of yogic lifestyle. Yoga District's expert instructors come from a very wide variety of yoga traditions. Combining teachings from these traditions leads to diverse classes that can be adapted to students' needs and moods. That's why we have so many different class types and our teachers can even have very different takes on the same class type. With so much variety, you're bound to find the types of yoga classes and yoga teachers that suit you.
How are we eco-friendly? As a founding business member of the Green Yoga Association, we not only provide innovative, challenging yoga instruction; we also have a tough, eco-friendly philosophy. From the organic clothing in our boutique, to eco-friendly rental and sale yoga mats; to composting, recycling, and using recycled paper products, Yoga District is committed to upholding green standards.
Even the renovation of our space was completed with the environment in mind: instead of replacing flooring, we restored the old heart of pine floors at two of the studios. We also painted all studios' walls with eco-friendly paint and varnished floors with low VOC poly. And every day we minimize energy consumption as much as possible, with studios lit by sunlight by day, and dimly lit by night. We also host meetings of "green" organizations and offer discounts to those with low carbon footprints. If you have any ideas to improve our eco-friendly mission or would like to volunteer to help us with our efforts, please call 202-265-YOGA.
What are our studios like? Our sunny and serene Dupont Circle Studio is on the very top floor of a registered historic building one block from the Dupont Circle metro stop. Our Studio near the U Street Corridor is on the second floor of a registered historic building on 14th Street NW between T and U Streets NW, two blocks from the U Street metro stop. The Bloomingdale studio is BIG and purple, ground level, and accommodates 40 students in a diverse, super-supportive neighborhood! It is located by the 92 busline close to the Howard/Shaw metro stop. For more information on how to get to our studios, please click on the links above, or give us a call at 202-265-YOGA.
How are our classes so affordable? Because we try to keep operation of our centers simple. Generous volunteer interns register students, clean the studios, and assist with our outreach programs. Our teachers volunteer their time too! Our teachers and volunteer interns are incredibly generous with their time, dedicating class time and beyond to carry out our studio’s mission. If you'd like to show extra appreciation, there are donation boxes at each studio. We have very low / no advertising costs because we rely on word-of-mouth referrals from our students. We encourage your feedback at www.yelp.com and other online sites; please do what you can to help spread the word, as this is YOUR community yoga center!
How did Yoga District get started? Jasmine Chehrazi quit her job at a law firm and worked with family, friends, and a collection of talented, dedicated yoga instructors to open a yoga studio that charges up to only $10 a class—with no gimmicks, no traps, and no frills, but with a big sense of humor, creativity, and community. Yoga District opened its Dupont Circle location in January 2007, started offering classes at the MidCity studio in August 2007, and the Bloomingdale studio opened October 2008. To get in touch with Jasmine, please email info@yogadistrict.com.
